I don't ride a lot but I ride often. 15 to 20 mpd 6 to 7 days per week. I have a particularly long torso (think large tall shirts) and the first thing I noticed is the distance between the seat and the handlebars is short. As in uncomfortable to stand up and pedal short. The gearing is really odd as well. 2/3 is awkward but 2/2 is pedaling as fast as your legs can go up hills. Definitely not a Cannondale, but for a cheap bike I still really expected more. Riding partners that have hybrids like my Cannondale glide past me without effort. The tires are 700/45s but the resistance difference shouldn't* be that impactful. Cheap bearings? I have no idea. Put your handle bars down all the way, that helped me to recapture some stretch from seatpost to HB post

I am 60 years old and weigh 260 lbs. I got this bike as a 30 year service award from my employer. I use this to ride rails to trails mostly. I've put on around 350 miles in the past year. I had a Swinn mountain bike I purchased in the early 90's. What a difference it was to upgrade to this bike. I really enjoy my bike and would recommend it. But the tires are very worn for that many miles on the bike. They are still ok but not sure for how long. Had to get the spokes adjusted on the front but other than that no complaints.

I bought the Verve 3 about a month ago and it's beating me to death on bumps. I noticed other Verve 3 bikes have a shock front fork, mine does not. Is it supposed to?
Comments:
I'm a 58 year old and picked this bike because I was looking for a highbred bike. I generally ride 20 miles or less, and like the handling and comfort of this bike. It's a little slow at the top end, but it is a good balance of speed/comfort. I think it's good for someone who is not a super serious biker but wants a good bike. The quality is there.

Nice suspension, after years of not riding a bike I took to it like a fish to water. Comfortable riding position & hydraulics. The new bikes have much better shifters and brakes.

Tomorrow (7/8/16) marks the second week since I first rode my new Trek Verve 3. I intended to wait until I put 500 miles on it before a review but I'm so happy with this bike I decided to go ahead after only 215 miles. I'm a 64 year old 250 lb. (hoping to weigh much less soon) man. I've been riding for a few years and try to do at least 20 miles a rides mostly roads and paved/gravel trails. I try to keep a 13 to 15 mph pace. I also use it for trips to the store etc. if practical. I actually picked this bike during a visit to TX when a relative & I went to a bike shop. He also bought a Trek. Returning to SC I immediately went to the Trek of Charleston West Ashley Store and ordered the Verve 3. The ride is better than I could have imagined. A very smooth and comfortable. To date I haven't had any problems with shifting or chain rubbing others have mentioned. As far as the seat is concerned it is very comfortable, although right now not quite as comfy my last seat. With that said it is a nice design and comfortable enough for me to give it a try for a while. For the record this is the first bike I recall where I didn't toss and replace the saddle within a few days. I like the seat design and think my back side will adjust. Everyone has different preferences. Now for the store, service was amazing. The folks at the Trek store of Charleston were great From Ben Gruber Who Advised me about fit and my bike needs. To "OZ" the bike mechanic who assembled and inspected the bike and patiently installed all the add-ons such as fenders, bike computers, and racks all while cheerfully answering my endless questions. And KC (Kevin I think) who made sure I didn't forget anything. All these people were true professionals, informative with absolutely no pressure to buy. I strongly recommend this store for anyone shopping for a bike. Finely I always thought a good Trek was out of my league, unless you spent big $$ you wouldn't get a really good bike. I was surprised to find a really good quality Trek well within my price range.

I'm 66, weigh 290 and have ridden it 4500 miles in 3 years with no real problems. Original tires wore out in 1500 miles and I had to have rear wheel re-spoked with heavier duty spokes. I've gone thru 2 chains, one cassette, 3 tires and brake shoes. Occasionally I wish it had a lower gear, but not often. I love the front and seat suspension and slightly wider tires than road bikes. I estimate I've shifted over 40,000 times and it still shifts like a charm. Best bike I've ever owned by far.

Comments:
Have had the bike for 3 years and 3900 miles, Original tires only lasted 1000 miles brakes about 1500 Michelin tires on now way lighter and more durable probably another 1000 left, Not one problem with bike ever, I am 61 and it is a awesome road bike for me, not the fastest bike but the suspension and comfort make up for that
